Position Summary

This position contributes to meeting Intend’s goal of supporting comprehensive community development, neighborhood stabilization, and small business development initiatives by contributing to the initiative to create opportunities to foster generational wealth by preserving and developing high-quality, affordable, and sustainable homes, reduce vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated properties and providing access to credit to businesses and low-to-moderate-income households.

The mission of the fellowship is to support diverse professionals in developing a career in real estate development, financing, and community development. The two-year fellowship program enables Fellows to develop real estate experience, learn about the development sector and financing tools, and build leadership skills while assisting with the day-to day operations of the lending and real estate development divisions of Intend.

Priority for the Trent Garrett Fellowship Program will be given to applicants who are underrepresented in the real estate development and community development finance industry, highly motivated, and interested in affordable housing and socially responsible real estate development and providing access to financing to underserved areas.

Evaluation of Performance

Performance will be evaluated based on meeting the specific goals, deadlines, and other quality indicators established for this position; working according to all specifications, policies, and standards established by Intend, working effectively in a team environment, and interacting positively with all clients, partners, and employees.

Essential Duties and Key Outcomes

  • Communicate effectively with Intend staff, partners, and clients through incoming calls, emails, and all other media.
  • Assist with land bank initiatives.
  • Coordinate and assist in meetings with interested clients to discuss the application process.
  • Coordinate and track property management contracts for all Intend Indiana, Inc. properties, including but not limited to mowing, trash/debris, removal, security.
  • Utilize project management and Client Relationship Management (CRM) software to fully ensure Intend Indiana, Inc. staff remain up to date on the status of all properties and data.
  • Collect and maintain program files to ensure regulatory and grant compliance, and document transactions for the annual financial audit.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors involved in real estate development activities to ensure contract fulfillment and timely completion of projects.
  • Assist with marketing, and advertising efforts for all Intend programs and initiatives.
  • Receive, review and process documents (invoices, etc.).
  • Meet with neighborhood organizations with the aim of fostering strong open relationships.
  • Communicate with clients and partners, via phone, email, and in-person as needed regarding Intend programs and initiatives.
  • Engage and assist with partner initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain and update data as required for reporting and fundraising efforts.
  • Assist with grant writing by researching, writing, and assisting with the coordination of grant application processes.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of program claims.
  • Assist with the review of work progress for compliance with the scope and schedule.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and licenses

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
  • Must possess reliable transportation as travel is required but is primarily local during the business day and may include daily site visits.

Preferred Experiences, Education, Degrees, and Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Real Estate or community development experience preferred.
  • Bilingual / Proficient in English and Spanish

Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to gain proficiency with computers and other office equipment.
  • Work is primarily in an office environment, both at the Intend office and stakeholder offices.
  • Must be able to travel to meet potential lenders, City/State leadership, etc.
