Resident of the Month: Cynthia Hooks

We have chosen Cynthia Hooks because of her dedication to revitalizing the Kennedy-King Neighborhood Association. Neighbors truly feel that they have a place to voice their concerns to make their neighborhood a better place.

Cynthia Hooks Resident of the Month1. Which neighborhood do you live in?

I proudly live in Kennedy King.

2. How long have you lived there?

I moved in full-time in 2010. However, I’ve “lived” here off and on 49 years because I spent summers here with my grandma.

3. What makes King Park home?

Kennedy King has always been home for me, because it was my grandmother’s home. I can remember walking to the local grocer Frankovitz at 17th & Bellefontaine, as a kid for my grandma. I have very fond memories of this area. Being able to move in and restore her home has been an awesome experience.

4. What are some of your favorite attractions in King Park?

I love being walking distance to The Monon. I walk my dogs Bishop and Queenie and ride my bike on the trail. In the summer I enjoy swimming in the pool at MLK park and walking laps around the park to hunt for Pokémon.

5. What is your favorite place to eat in King Park?

I enjoy breakfast at Lincoln Square; the pancakes are huge. Lunch is always at The Grub House for a Cobb Salad. Dinner at The Kountry Kitchen for a real down home cooked meal.  Weekends I unwind at Cannon Ball Brewing for the atmosphere.

6. Anything else you want us to know?

Our family worships with two sister churches in King Park. Bethel Apostolic Church is on Dr. Andrew J Brown and this is where my grandmother and her family would walk to service. I also fellowship and collaborate with Grace Apostolic Church on College Ave. where we have a combined Church annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless.

Thanks to Cynthia for being a great resident of King Park!
